Join Us for a Virtual Presentation on Energy Storage System (ESS) Requirements

Date: Thursday, February 20, 2025
Time: 12:00 PM (PST)
Location: Microsoft Teams (link will be provided upon RSVP)

From batteries to photovoltaic systems, energy storage systems (ESS) are an emerging technology that fire codes and standards are constantly adapting to. Join us for a 60-minute training to discuss ESS design and regulatory compliance.

Nick Bartlett, Fire Marshal at National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), is a subject matter expert on ESS and sits on the NFPA 855 Standard for the Installation of Stationary Energy Storage Systems committee. He will provide information on different types of ESS and how to comply with California Fire Code (CFC) and NFPA 855 requirements. He will also discuss UL listing requirements and test methods, fire protection features such as fire suppression and explosion control, emergency response plans, hazard mitigation analysis (HMA), and proper storage requirements. Lastly, he will share lessons learned from National Laboratory level installations and provide insights into changes coming for the 2026 Edition of NFPA 855.
